Opening the Stretch to Win® Center

When Olympic wrestler Kurt Angle won a gold medal in the 1996 Games, he picked Ann Frederick up off the ground, spun her around and said, “I couldn't have done this without you!” Ann was hired as the first Flexibility Specialist ever to work at the Olympics – and the Men’s wrestling team went on to win more medals than any other team in those games.

Upon her return from the Olympics, Ann founded a new system of techniques called Stretch to Win® - Fascial Stretch Therapy (STW-FST).  Ann also returned to Arizona State University to finish her master’s level thesis; a research study on the comparative outcomes of traditional stretching versus her unique undulating stretching which focused on fascial continuities rather than isolated muscles.

When the results of her of her study pointed more favorably to her technique, she was encouraged by the credibility science had given her and she created a new profession and business that she called the Stretch to Win® Center. Word rapidly spread in the professional athletic world about the remarkably effective work of “The Stretch Lady”.

The Business of Stretch to Win®

During the almost 20 years that the Center was open, everyone from children, to the elderly, to entire families came to heal from pain, injury and disease. While the STW Centers’ core business was FST, it was also integrated into all the other services they offered, including: physical therapy, pilates, chiropractic care, massage, kinesis myofascial integration (KMI), acupunture and naturopathic medicine.

When her future husband, Chris, joined the Center in 1998 as a physical therapist, he developed and evolved FST as a treatment of choice for a large number of common musculoskeletal diagnoses as well as chronic pain. He also developed sound protocols that integrated FST with manual physical therapy, Kinesis myofascial integration, Pilates and Qigong.

A New Focus

After almost 20 years of rapid growth and success, the Fredericks closed the Stretch to Win® Center to focus on their other business called the Stretch to Win® Institute – founded in 1999, this entity was a way to train others so that STW - FST could have a global effect on improving lives.  Soon after the Frederick’s began teaching various fitness, health, and sports professionals their system; students reported positive results in both the clients they were treating and within their own businesses – including several whose business doubled or tripled within months of finishing basic training.

STW Mission

As founders and creators of the FST™ procedures, Ann and Chris Frederick understand that many professionals in health, fitness & sports have not studied which stretching methods are best, and they also realize that it is hard to find accurate research about the importance of stretching and flexibility.  Devoting their lives to teaching others about FST™ has become their mission— teaching these professionals how to use their non-invasive FST™ procedures and empowering their students to earn an often lucrative living with the FST system, they hope to improve the health and performance of both athletes and everyday people around the world.

Ultimately, the STW mission is to provide the best education, training, post course support and opportunities available for professionals in medicine, health, therapy, fitness and sports.

Credentials: Train with the Founders Professionals who sign up for one of the FST workshops can rest assured that they are being trained by the best in the business. In 2006, the Fredericks published, Stretch to Win; Flexibility for Improved Speed, Power and Agility, and over the years, Ann and Chris have enjoyed an incredible level of success, including working as Stretch Coaches at three Super Bowls. The Arizona-based couple got a real kick out of working with members of the Arizona Cardinals at the 2009 Super Bowl. They have also worked at a variety of NCAA track championships and have been part of an impressive three Olympic games.

Some of the many professional athletes that have benefitted from FST™ include; Donovan McNabb, Quarterback, Philadelphia Eagles; Sanya Richards, 2004, 2008, 2012 Olympic 4x400-meter relay gold medalist and 2012 400 meter gold medal; and Mike Tyson, former undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion.

The Stretch to Win Institute is also a continuing education provider and depending on the students’ discipline, CEs & CEUs may be granted for workshop courses. The Stretch to Win® Institute Corporation has been registered with the Arizona Corporate Commission to conduct the business of professional continuing education in the State of Arizona since 1999.
